The structure of the Russian Historical Society

The General Assembly of the Russian Historical Society is the supreme governing body of the Russian Historical Society. It shall be convened at least once in every three years.

The General Assembly shall adopt all key decisions related to the activities of the Russian Historical Society: the Statute of the Russian Historical Society shall be approved; priority directions of its operation shall be defined; the Chairman of the Russian Historical Society, members of the Board of the Russian Historical Society and other officials shall be elected. The decisions shall be passed in the process of open vote or ballot vote, by the simple majority of votes of the members of the Russian Historical Society who are present at the General Assembly.

Chairman of the Russian Historical Society

The chairman of the Russian Historical Society shall represent the interests of the Society in the state government bodies, in the local self-government authorities, as well as in commercial, non-profit and international associations.

Sergei Naryshkin has been permanent chairman of the Russian Historical Society from the moment when it was restored in 2012. All major events, e.g., historical and documentary exhibitions, round tables, scientific conferences, presentations of publishing and documentary film projects, have been organized and implemented with his personal participation.

Sergei Naryshkin has also been chairman of the board of the National History Foundation that was created in 2016 by a decree of the President of Russia as an instrument for supporting the activities of the Russian Historical Society. Beyond that, Sergei Naryshkin heads the Steering Committee for the preparation of events related to the commemoration of the 100th anniversary of the First World War as well as the Steering Committee for supporting literature, publishing and reading in the Russian Federation.

The Board of the Russian Historical Society

The main governing body of the Society in the period between the General Assembly meetings of the Russian Historical Society shall be the Board of the Russian Historical Society. Board meetings shall be convened at least once per year at the suggestion of the Chairman of the Russian Historical Society. They shall deal with such issues as review and approval of annual reports, approval of regulatory documents, membership fees, instituting awards; also members of the Presidium of the Board of the Russian Historical Society shall be elected.

Presidium of the Board of the Russian Historical Society

The Presidium of the Board of the Russian Historical Society is the standing governance board of the Russian Historical Society.

The Presidium of the Board meetings shall convene at least once every two months. Key administrative and logistical issues related to the activities of the Russian Historical Society shall be resolved at these meeting. The Presidium of the Board shall make a decision regarding the convocation of the General Assembly of the Russian Historical Society, create boards and commissions of the Society, define the Society’s current goals, allow the creation of press organs and designated funds, approve the Society emblem plus review programs of congresses, conferences, seminars, round tables and other events which shall be organized by the Society.

Executive Board of the Russian Historical Society

The executive board of the Russian Historical Society is a permanent executive body. It shall implement decisions approved by the General Assembly of the Russian Historical Society, the meetings of the Board of the Russian Historical Society and of the Presidium of the Board of the Russian Historical Society. Executive Board meetings shall be convened at least once a month. The chairman of the Executive Board of the Russian Historical Society shall act without power of attorney in the name of the Russian Historical Society, representing its interests in the state government bodies, in the local self-government authorities as well as in commercial and non-profit organizations plus he shall represent the Russian Historical Society in a court of law.

Central Control Review Committee of the Russian Historical Society

The Central Control Review Committee of the Russian Historical Society shall be elected by the General Assembly of the Russian Historical Society. It shall audit the financial and economic activities of the Society, maintain records, monitor the compliance with the Statutes of the Society and the decisions of the Society’s General Assembly, the Board and the Presidium of the Board.

Committees of the Russian Historical Society

Permanent and temporary committees shall be created in order to resolve current issues. Their composition shall be determined by the Presidium of the Board of the Russian Historical Society upon the recommendation of the Chairman of the Society.
